Gothic 1 Remake Skills and Attributes Guide

Character progression in Gothic 1 Remake is based on Learning Points (LP) earned from quests and combat. You spend LP to increase attributes and learn skills from trainers. Here's how to optimize your build.

Attributes

Attribute Effect Priority
Strength Increases melee damage, allows using better weapons High for melee builds
Dexterity Increases bow damage, pickpocketing, lockpicking High for ranged/thief builds
Mana Maximum magic energy for spellcasting High for magic builds
Hitpoints Maximum health Medium for all builds
Max Food Maximum food points (stamina) Low priority

Weapon Skills

Weapon skills determine your combat effectiveness. You must find trainers to learn them:

Skill Levels Effect Where to Learn
1-Handed Weapons 1% - 100% Increases damage and attack speed with 1-handed weapons Weapon trainers in each camp
2-Handed Weapons 1% - 100% Increases damage with 2-handed weapons (swords, axes) Weapon trainers in each camp
Bows 1% - 100% Increases bow damage and accuracy Bow trainers in each camp
Crossbows 1% - 100% Increases crossbow damage (higher than bows but slower) Crossbow trainers in New Camp

Combat Skills

Skill Effect Best For
Acrobatics Jump higher, dodge attacks All builds
Sneaking Move silently, avoid detection Thief builds
Pickpocketing Steal from NPCs Thief builds

Magic Skills

Magic is faction-dependent. You can only learn magic after joining a camp:

Psionic Swamp Camp Mind control, fear, buffs Gurus
Runes All (late game) Scroll-based magic Various NPCs

Recommended Builds

1. Warrior Build (Beginner Friendly)

Focus: Strength + 1-Handed Weapons

  • Primary: Strength (60+), 1-Handed Weapons (100%)
  • Secondary: Hitpoints, Acrobatics
  • Faction: Old Camp
  • Weapons: Sword and shield

Why it works: Simple, reliable, high damage output. Good for learning the game.

2. Archer Build

Focus: Dexterity + Bow

  • Primary: Dexterity (60+), Bow (100%)
  • Secondary: Strength (for melee backup), Sneaking
  • Faction: Any (Old Camp recommended for beginners)
  • Weapons: Bow + melee backup weapon

Why it works: Safe combat at range. Can kite enemies. Good for avoiding damage.

3. Mage Build

Focus: Mana + Magic

  • Primary: Mana (high), Circle of Water or Psionic
  • Secondary: Strength (for melee backup), Alchemy
  • Faction: New Camp (Water Magic) or Swamp Camp (Psionic)
  • Weapons: Staff + spells

Why it works: High damage output at range. Healing spells reduce need for potions. However, requires more game knowledge.

4. Hybrid Build

Focus: Balanced

  • Strength: 40-50
  • Dexterity: 40-50
  • 1-Handed Weapons: 100%
  • Bow: 60-80%
  • Acrobatics, Lockpicking

Why it works: Flexible. Can handle any situation but not specialized. Good for exploration.

Leveling Tips

  1. Don't spread LP too thin: Focus on 2-3 main skills. Jack of all trades is weak in Gothic.
  2. Get weapon training early: 1% weapon skill costs 5 LP. 100% costs 500 LP total. Start early.
  3. Strength before weapons: You need enough Strength to wield weapons. Check weapon requirements.
  4. Save LP for magic: If going mage, save 50+ LP for mana investment.
  5. Hitpoints are always useful: 10-20 points in HP early game prevents one-shots.
